Of Interest: Lightning Safety

Cloud to ground lightning strike near Key Colony Beach, FL, July 2000, NOAA

Boom! Crack! Thunderstorms and lightning can be terrifying for some. Because these storms are very dangerous, proper and protective actions must be taken immediately. Lightning is one of the nation's deadliest weather phenomena, particularly during the summertime. In 2006, 246 injuries and 47 deaths were confirmed due to lightning strikes.

While you can't prevent Mother Nature from stirring up a storm, you can take the necessary precautions to keep you and your family "shock" free. During storms, get inside, stay away from windows, do not take showers or wash dishes, and stay off the phone and computer.
